I have a 2000 ZX6R with stock headers and can.
Has anyone experienced problems with rust spots on their stainless steel headers ? I have two tiny holes in the header pipe about 10 cm (4 inches) from the can. They look like two little black spots, one on either side of the pipe, no bigger than 1mm (about 0.04 inches). Is it safe to have them welded? Or should I replace the pipe?
If I ignore the problem what effect, if any, this will have on the bike?
There is no other rust on the bike, in fact the rest of the bike is A1 condition.

Thanks
Corbywan

Yeah, the holes are all the way through, gas does come out. When the engine is running you can feel the exhaust gas coming through the holes with your hand.:(

Well, I don't think it is rust...since it is stainless steel and all. What it may be is corrosion from the inside of the pipe that eventually 'ate' through. The chemicals in the emissions residue probably caused the corrosion. But, I don't believe it should do this...even though it is 3 years old. Has your bike been ridden rich for an extended period of time or something? Also, an unlikely case could be manufacturing defect in the pipe in that area.
