Quick question. My gas cap lock is getting sticky, probably from rust or what not...the key slides in fine, but there's a shit ton of resistance when I turn it open or closed, and the return spring doesn't work at all. Feels exactly like it's just getting a tad rusty. Just too many rain trips, I guess. If I'm careful about it (obviously), can I just WD-40 it to get some better function out of it, or will that cause any problems, being in such close proximity to the gas tank? Basically, if some WD-40 leaks down into the tank and gets sucked into the motor, will it cause problems with my fuel pump / fuel filter / fuel injectors / engine? Or are the chemicals in it not all that bad?
Basically my only options are to do that, to remove the fuel cap assembly and disassemble it, and get rid of the contaminates one part at a time, or to buy a racing fuel cap, because I'm not willing to get a different lock set for the tank. Thanks for the help guys.
