Just got my bike (zx10rr 2018) and it has issue for its gear indicator. The neutral shows 5th gear, the first gear shows 4th gear, second gear shows 5th gear again, third gear shows 6th, fourth gear shows 1st and so on...

Anybody here knows how to fix this? I am worried this will mess up the bike's fueling as i think i have read somewhere that the bike is basing its fueling on the gear positioning sensor (not sure if they are the same as my issue).

If anyone can help on what to do, it will greatly be appreciated..

*I already scheduled a service from kawasaki but wantd to know if this is an easy fix or hace to wait for the service*

That stinks. I'm not sure if anyone on this forum has even seen a 10RR lol... so I don't know if there will be any help forthcoming. I would have that thing in for warranty work like yesterday.

It might be easy, might be a technical nightmare. Some gear indicators just read speed/vs RPM to figure out the gear the bike is in, but thats kind of an old school solution. I imagine Kawasaki is using something a bit more high tech on their flagship sport bike.

Keep us posted though, i'm interested to hear what kind of work is required to fix/adjust, assuming the techs will even share that with you.

That is my worry....:(

Been to the service center at 17km odo reading, no dtc codes or whatever and ehat ever is seen on the bike's gear indicator also shows on the computer when plugged in..tested and tweaked things but since the bike's gear indicator doesnt really go on neutral, but the bike can "mechanically" go neutral, they are saying they would need to change the gear positioning sensor..

Just waiting for the parts, and I hope that will fix the issue...

Will keep you posted guys!

The fix

!!!UPDATE!!!

The gear positioning sensor was, for some reason, installed incorrectly maybe from assembly line (which is quite rare to happen considering how the japanese precisely assembles those limited edition bikes).

I reinstalled them on the correct orientation today (i got tired waiting for the service center) and then it is now running properly!:) Got the neutral light too!

By monday i will still go to the service center locally (who doesnt have an idea of fixing big bikes) and install the new gear position sensor with new o-rings and etc etc...

So happy to have figured out how to fix it by myself! Haha

Nice ! Glad to hear it was something simple.

It is surprising to hear something was wonky on the install, especially on a Japanese bike. A Harley, I would not have been surprised however... lol

It may also be something that Kawasaki doesn't bother to install precisely before shipping and is supposed to be calibrated after un-crating the bike at the dealership. Next time I talk to my friend who used to setup bikes for a dealership I'll ask him about what setup usually involves on new motorcycles.

Yeah, I was really surprised re that..i think it was merely a rookie mistake coz the sensor was forced the wrong way damaging the plastic..the guide was not followed...

I want to upload the picture but for some reason it wont upload it...

Anyway i am happy it was that simple...went back to the service center yeaterday and had everything installed properly with o-rings and spacers replaced..:)
