I hung it off of the mirror (like a dumbass) and it dropped at the gas station onto the higher part where the pump is. Actual distance traveled, about a foot and a half. So, there are some light scratches and 2-3 tiny dings on the helmet. Does it need to be replaced? It was a VERY light drop. Damn.... $289 on that AGV helmet.

well I was told if you hold your arms out and drop it from there its done, thats only like 4 feet. I've seen people riding with beat up helmets and either they don't know or don't seem to care but remember its your head, your brain doesn't grow back so I say you can take the chance that its fine or you can go buy a new one, remember the $80 helmet protects you as much as the $600 helmet.

i would say it was allright. surely a 1-1/2' drop couldnt hurt it that much. i mean if you go down & smash your little noggin on the pavement i dont think the result would be any different if you dropped it a foot or two. but then again im the guy who has left over nuts & bolts after a mechanicing job.

been there, done that, got a closet full of t-shirts.:D i've dropped mine a few times. if you feel that uncomfortable with the dings in your helmet, then you should get another one. it should be alright, though. it adds character.;)

According to the Shoei manual, a helmet is "designed to absorb one impact" and it even goes to give the example of the helmet being accidently dropped counting as an impact.

So I would say your helmet should be replaced.

go to a police station or court house where they have x-ray scanners. let them put it through the scanner and take a peak at the foam. i dont know what to look for though. its an idea.

umm ok u know nothing about lids i guess.. an 80$ dollar barely DOT approved helmet cant even come close to the level of protection and comfort all together u get from a good SHOEI an AGV or an Arai which Arai has its own in house standards which FAR exceed SnellM2000 specifications... SnellM2000 rating is whats required to ride on any race track... so yer telling me their the same as far as safety??? sorry... your totally wrong =( i wont put on anything thats not Snell rated... my current helmet is SnellM95 rated.. heh its a lil older its an AGV as well... good choice on helmet Blue636 i love AGV's gonna pick up an AGV v flyer with the top vent... need a new one to match the new bike, and the top vent air flow system is top notch !! much needed in the south texas heat =D

I have a pair of Suomy's(one for each bike:D) and I haven't ever dropped either but I think if it happened i would have to replace it. I am with Mythical_Rider, if your gonna buy an eight thousand dollar bike then why cheap out on your gear. My Suomy's run about $ 500 each, sounds like a lot but I would never settle for anything less!

Won't work. You need to look for spider cracks in the foam. The only problem is they can be on the outside of the foam next to the shell and you will have to destroy the helmet to check there.

An $80 Snell approved helmet will perform to the same minimum standards as the Snell labeled brands above. Arai, for one, claims that all of their helmets are built to the same standards no matter the price, but I have not seen anything that says they exceed any requirements. Not that it doesn't exist, I just haven't seen it.

Remember that any cert only has a minimum requirement and that some brands may surpass others on what the cert considers safe. You would have to do some research to see exactly what they consider better.

IMHO, always get a Snell/DOT approved helmet. Snell requires a smaller g-load to be transmitted to the head, while the DOT standard requires a shorter dwell time. The two together seem like a fairly safe system.

im pretty sure i read about the Arai in house standard on their website bro.. i do know it exhists tho.. i mean everyone knows Arai is among the top 3 helmets in the world IMO anyway.. and ive yet to see an 80$ SnellM2000 approved helmet heh... i like to go with some comfort... and especially high speed stability.. and most importantly safety.. the old AGV i have right now is bad at high speeds it likes to really bounce around at about 160... which can make it hard to see heh.. the AGV v flyer is my next helmet... great air flow and the top vent fins make for great high speed stability =) great lid i recommend it... and of course its SnellM2000 approved... best price ive found was 250$ for this helmet @ mawonline.com ... direct from AGV they run around 400 =)

dont use older helmets anymore. i think after 2-3 years the foam starts to detiorate. i heard this from a shoei salesman at the dealer, dont know if its a sale ploy or not.

that i dont believe... it may be true.. but its foam man.. it takes a million years to bio degrade.. but after sitting in yer helmet for 2 years it deteriorates? sounds funny to me hehe.. i just want a newer one because helmets have advanced alot since i bought mine.. it was one of the best helmets u could get back then heh

This is not a myth, as some believe. The problem is that the glue that holds the foam to the shell starts to degrade it. It also depends on heat, sweat and general care. Snell recommends every 5 years to replace it because they can't determine how you're going to treat your helmet, but with good care, one will last longer.

Arai helmets have 5 year warranty = life time warranty. So for Arai helmet's lifetime is 5 years. I don’t know if I would replace my helmet just because of that in 5 years, but chances are in that time you dropped the helmet, bike + helmet, just your head + helmet, or got a different color bike.

[:M7]I went over my bars about 3 weeks ago landing head first on my arai helmet scratched part of my helmet (size of a loonie) but didn't crack it[:M4]. I got off pretty easy with a few scrapes on my stator cover and the passenger (oh shit) bar but came out with a fractured foot in 3 spots! DAMMMMMMMMMMMM does it suck to not be able to ride [:M70]
