How do you ride on the side of the bike?

1948 Views 27 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  Audiostraw
Do you know what I'm talking about, it's something that the horse jockey's do sometimes. The people drag their feet on the side of the bike and not directly in back of the bike. And have any of you jumped from your seat on to the gas tank and stand up at the same time?

Buy a side car! [^] I dont get it. I spend all winter dying to ride my bike. Why should anyone want to ride off of it??[?][xx(]

ROFL :D:D:D

Dunno... draw attention to themselves? Hike insurance rates? Dance with the devil?

I'm sure they'll say it's because of the thrill. Personally, I get enough thrills ON the bike, but then maybe I'm a boring old fart to these guys. All I know is, if you're doing that kinda stuff in town, I'll be dingin' yas with tickets for careless... I see too many accidents, and most of the time it's young inexperienced riders riding beyond their limits.

Closed course conditions? Go nuts. Knock yerselves out I say. But not through subdivisions.

I'm just gonna jump off this soapbox now...

WHAT?????!!!!!!! someone posted a question about doing stunts in "stunters corner". hey guys, why bust his balls about doing stunts? how about some legitimate info. to answer your questions: no ive never done the side skiing thing, the rush wouldnt be worth the pain(if you wrecked) for that one. and yes, if you mean doing a tank/seat stand. no jumping around, just good balance. good luck, be safe.
GET'EM JOSH, YEAH!!!!!!! TAKE THAT YOU TWO, just playing, I just want to know how people do it, I myself don't plan on trying it soon, but maybe somebody may ask oneday how people do it and I will tell them, and maybe they'll try it and I can learn from their mistakes. I like to understand the physics of how these types of things work. You don't have to use big words or anything, I just like to know.

Sorry Josh, and you're right, this IS stunter's corner... I understand that I am the one who is out of line here...

BUT... I'm just laughing because of 2 things...

1) You talk to a guy about how to "bike ski" and do "tankstands", and then finish your post with "good luck be safe" ??? SAFE ???

2) The "rush" would be worth the pain if you wrecked??? I guess I just have a hard time believing I'd be sliding down on my ass, watching my bike skipping down the road or bouncing end over end smashing, probably end up with SOME kind of fairly serious injury if I dumped it mid-stunt trying to "ski" or "tank stand", but I'd get up and say, "oh well it was worth it... what a rush" ???

Josh, you're a better man than I. Or maybe just richer. All I know is bikers are getting a bad rap these days for being out of control and my insurance rates keep climbing with the number of fatalities and serious injuries and totalled bikes climbs. And it IS climbing by the way. 4 years ago, 1 in 20 fatal accidents on America's streets were on a motorcycle. Last year, 1 in 13. Seems to me these extreme videos have gained popularity over the same span of time, and so has the fact that it's "cool" to do stunts without protective gear and even helmets! And in residential neighborhoods too!

I just hope that if you're going to try some crazy stuff you are either NOT insured, or are a far better rider than most people, because it's hard for me to stay quiet when I hear what sounds like newer riders asking how to do things they see on extreme biking videos, thinking that somehow I'M either gonna be one of the people paying for their crashes down the road, or helping to scrape them off it. I'm selfish like that I guess...

I'm not talking about the odd wheelie on a long stretch of open road, or even a little stoppie coming into the parking lot. We all like to play a little bit. I'm also not saying anything specific about josh or a007sniper here. I'm talking a peeve of mine in GENERAL.

Sorry again for the rant. Can't stay quiet for some reason. And one last thing. Anybody who's watched "Judgement Day" would likely agree the best guy on it is the guy from Sweden, Sune Anderson. My question is why is he pretty much the only guy who's wearing FULL GEAR head to toe in ALL his stunts??? It seems to me it's a North American thing that stunters wear t-shirts and running shoes, and even no helmet. I don't get it. I hope the guys who are doing these stunts without proper gear and on public streets are never posting their disapproval for the way insurance rates are for motorcycles these days... 'CAUSE YOU'RE THE DAMN REASON !

Okay now stunters, go ahead and jump all over me for voicing my thoughts.

Well said DJ, I agree 100%. I think I'll just have to avoid this area for now on. Not b/c I don't wanna read about it or anything, but I'll just end up posting over & over trying to convince people it's not worth smashing their pride and joy over a split second of "coolness" (this is not aimed at anyone, just a general statement).

I have no prob with the things DJ speak of, the little wheelies etc, it's the hardcore stunting I'm talking about. But to each his own. I would just hate to see a thread start with someone asking how to do a crazy stunt, only to continue reading through till the latest post comes up about the bike being parted out etc. I've gone through someting similar before when I let someone ride my bike and they crashed it in some real tight twisties, narrowly avoiding serious injury(no stunting involved). He paid to repair it, but I didn't want a crashed/repaired bike, so I got rid of it at a loss. Those were not happy days.

Just a side note about Judgement Day video, love to watch it because they do shit I never will, wish they all used full gear on private roads, but the last thing I'm gonna do is ski along side my bike, it just looks retarded. No stunt is worth losing your bike over, but riding like a grandma ain't fun to me either[)] If I had to choose, I'd rather dump my bike doing a first gear wheelie or a stoppie than this skiing business(maybe because I snowboard):D It's your choice to do these stunts, and I hope you get good advice and don't eat shit, but rest assured lots of other riders (and people in general) are not impressed by extreme stunts on public roads.
This is how NOT to do it... and it's about to get MOST painful for this guy too... but at least he's well protected (by all the layers of FAT in his head...)

My brother does it when it's wet. He says it's easy to do, just hard to get back on the bike.

Dan...comfortable enough with his manhood to ride a 600.
dj dunzie. wow, i couldnt read all that. i got to the part were you quoted me wrong. i said it " wouldn't be worth the pain". didnt mean to ruffle your feathers. and i do sincerely hope that he does this somewhere secluded and doesnt fuck his bike up. i dont want to argue with people, this is the second time in a couple weeks. ill say this again: yes i do ride wheelies, not crazy third gear shit in traffic. i do stoppies. everyone with a bike like this does these things(if your still young). and i do promote wearing all the safety gear you can get. thats where i stand. if you just got a bike and you wanna be a superstar its your own stupidity if you wad your bike up doing shit like the starboyz.
I stand corrected, and embarassed bro... lol...

My bad... BAD DJ BAD...

Anyway, good to know you have a level head about ya. Sorry for the misquote...

"Keep yer feet on the pegs and your right hand cranked."
hey no prob. id rather make friends than enemys any day.
I was just curious as to how it was done guys. I wouldn't try it on my bike but I'd do it on someone elses, and yes in a secluded area. I have common sense.

I wonder if that guy in that picture lived? It look non fatal enough when I first looked at it because it was a still pic and didn't look to grusome yet. But after a few seconds of looking at it and assuming some of the physics that may be involved in that wreck...i would assume that:

He hits the back of his head REALLY hard on the road...and then hits it again with the bike comes down on him. I wouldn't be surprised if this rider didn't sustain some serious head injuries from this wreck.

I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty that's for SURE...

I think that is part of the stunt, instead of riding on the side of the bike he modified it to riding underneath. What a refreshing idea[)]

That was one brutal wreck. Makes me not want to pull wheelies anymore, but also to NEVER ride w/out safety gear.
