Hi Guys'n Gall's

I've lost the key for 99 ZX6R, i built it into a trackbike so i don't need the key anyway.
As far as i can se from the diagram i need to put the red and blue wire together and connect Brown/White/Gray.

When i do this it does everything, engine crancks instruments light up coils reciver power, fuel pump works, but what i dont get i spark from my sparkplugs ????[xx(]
I have trackday saturday, so quick will be apriciated.

I tried the same thing when my ignition toook a crap on me and left me stranded, everything would work but no fire....I have NO clue as to why either. Go take your title to a dealer and get a new key made

its made to do that..... for the reaseons youd expect.....i cant remember how to get round it and not being funny ieven if i did i wouldnt want to post it up on a public forum for bike thives to see... but they prolly know how anyway

No offense meant but if you had been more of a longer member i would have gladly helped you out but i will not partake in possibly offering a thief a lesson of how to get past the ignition system. If you are genuine then as burple says take your title to a dealer and either get them to sort a new key out or help you bypass the ignition.

i agree with deathace look at the barrel and there should be a code on there somewere take that code to your local kawasaki dealer and they should order you a key otherwise i'd drill out the security bolts and fit a new one

plus with some later modles theres a built in imobileiser in the cdi
you try and hot wire it and itll screw the bike you'll need a new cdi and other parts according to my mate andy who say's its on his Z750

There is a clean way around it...but I question putting it out on the internet as well.

On a more brute force method. A buddy had his coat stolen while we were playing pool/eating lunch...lost his keys and we were 2+ hours from home...we pounded a flat head screw driver into the lock and turned it that way...lock was junk, but he could ride home. I've seen guys do this at the race track that forgot keys at home too.

This is the same thing with boats, it is a very simple fix, but like everyone says no one is going to help because we could be helping a thief.....

well either my local Kawasaki dealer was jerking me around or Kawasaki was stupid and doesn't keep key codes on file. I had the key to my 05 ZX6R thrown out in the trash. I looked into a replacement and they told me the only option was to remove the ignition and buy a new one. But that still doesn't fix the problem that once I get it running I can only go as far as is in the tank cause I can't open the gas tank without a key. To make matters worse, my bike is a track only bike. I bought it from someone who bought it from Copart as a salvage only bike. A small dent in the frame and 400 miles. The problem, it was NEVER titled. And obviously the MSO didn't make it through the salvage process so the only proof I have of ownership is a Copart reciept that I can't lay my hands on and a bank loan. So I need help on two fronts. One, how can I file for a title? And TWO, how can I bypass the key? I understand the lack of intrest in posting so feel free to call with details. If you would like refferences I can get you to talk to several members of CMRA. They will vouch for me. FYI, Central Motorcycle Racing Association is the club of the south. The same club that turned out Ben Spies.... I actually got to turn laps with him at TWS. I didn't say I kept up... just turned laps!!! they indeed keep them on file, just not tied to the VIN....when you buy a bike new, it comes with a plastic tag on the key-ring...that number has your key code....few people hang onto them.

i'd watch ebay for a used key set.

Here is an easy one guys... remove the lock take it to a lock smith...1-2 days later tumblers are used to cut a stock type key so you will have one for the tank too... they do ask for photo ID and police do check with them regularly to see who is getting keys cut and for what reason. and what bike

I have looked into this but the locksmith quoted me $125 for the key and cutting. That's an aweful lot of money for a stupid key. AND I don't know how much trouble it's gonna be since I don't have a state issued title for the bike. So I"m gonna try and figure out a way to avoid that before I pony up that money! next ?... does the tumbler half the lock seperate from the wires that come out of it? Do I have to just cut the wire and splice them back together?

[:+1] bring the bike to a dealer, bring what ever paperwork you have proving you own the bike and im sure they will be able to assist you.

there is a resistor in the switch inline with the grey wire. The blue wire and red wire are not used. Basically, 12v current comes in thru the white wire and goes out to the brown wire and grey wire. Run the white wire to a single pole automotive (30amp) on-off switch, then from the switch to both the white wire and the grey wire - 100 ohm resistor - grey wire.

I just snapped my damn key and it was my only one!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!! I need help guys. This is on my 2002 zx6r street bike, not the race bike in my picture.

so you want to know how to hot wire it or you want to know how to get the key out of the ignition? you want a new ignition?

if you want to know how to hot wire it it's the same as has already been posted. get a wiring diagram and find out which wires are connected when the ignition switch is in the on position. then put a 100ohm resistor in the grey voltage sensing wire.

ok had a friend on another forum have his switch take a shit and i drew him up a diagram to get around it.

you can pretty much use any spst switch on it or use it to setup up a car style ignition from autozone or oreilly's to work it.

i found out when i wanted to do a car style ign/ starter switch so that i could clean up my bars and have absolutely no switches on it.

I had to drill my tank lock and replace it with one that doesnt require they key, it twists off like a car cap

Ive been thru this with my zx6r banshee hybrid. Key tumbler failed after a couple years of offroad abuse...took along time to figure out because everyone thinks your gonna steal their bike. If your that worried invest in some security and stop being a pussy. All you have to do is put a 100 ohm resistor between the brown/ grey wires. This is the bikes security feature without proper resistance it will crank but not fire. F the dealer if you have a little electrical backround. Just make sure you get a beefy toggle switch to avoid future dilema.
