Ok i'm really irritated at the fact of how hard something this seemingly easy is turning out to be.

The things appear to be lock nutted in there.. can someone shed some light on this before I rip the little plastic things out of there?

I used a razor knife to cut most of the rear mud guard off and relocated my license plate and bracket up under the tail light. I also bought an integrator kit so that I wouldn't need turn signals. Integrated tail lights are easy to find.

I suggest you just cut that shit off and either get the integrated tail light or get some short aftermarket signals. Just be careful with that knife. It'll cut through that plastic very easily. Just make sure you have a fresh blade.
