When the bike is standing still and I pull in the clutch I hear a whispering noise, not sure what to call it. Goes away when I put it in gear, in other words only does this in neutral. I have zx6r j1 with about 20k on it. I don't remember it doing that, anyone else notice something like this? Or is it time for a new clutch. (Friction zone is feels fine)

I noticed that a little bit on my '01 6R. Wasn't loud and was only in neutral with clutch in. That bike had about 6k on it. You had to kinda listen for it to notice... if it seems to be getting louder I would say get it looked at, but if it is just a whisper and the clutch feels fine I wouldn't worry about it.

Someone else I'm sure can give a good technical explanation.... .. so where are ya slackers?!

I think this is normal.... Its hard not to notice changes in the bike when you get it new then a few thousand miles later things start to sound a little different. My advice is not to be concerned only if it slips/ and/or out of gear. Then you'll need to replace it.
