So I tried to lay up some CF a couple days ago in the form of a rear cowl for the 05-06 zx6r. I have never done this before and it shows. but hey the whole project cost me nothin but my time. and believe it or not but the clay model armature in the pics is quite the piece of work. I work at Nissian Design and I had a couple of their clay modelers do some precision work on it. that thing is no joke the closest surface you could get to perfect besides the actual cowl itself. So here are some pics. hopefully the next one will be better.

I believe most of the molds for this kind of stuff are pressed into a negative. It will also get air bubbles out. I could be wrong.

yeah I dont know. but I have thought about using the inside of the one I laid up as it is damn near perfect inside.

Wet layup? You have a little too much resin on there. I would place peel ply on mold first so you can wrap the cf much tighter so it doesn't form those bumps. Been so long since I've made cf for my bike...hard to remember the best way to lay it up. gl

Make a plaster mold of the original. Then you'll have a negative to work with.

Use one of those plastic storage bags that you suck the air out with a vacuum.
