1990 600R K&N airfilter 4 into 1 pipe (stock was 4 into 2 I think)

O.K. the bike ran like sh!t when I got it. Idle would not go below 2000rpm. And if it sat for a while carbs would go dry and would not start. Damn vacuum fuel valve. Idle air screws were at 4 turns out (stock 2 out), needle jet was way rich, and stock jets. I rebuild the carbs, new jets (one size up), readjusted needle jets, and airscrews to 2 1/4 open. Now, she runs like a bat out of hell.

Here is the quesiton. If I adjust the idle to around 1000 rpm it takes about 2 seconds for the engine to drop down when I shift. If I drop the idle so it will shift properly it will not idle without dieing. What do I need to adjust to fix this?

Oh yeah, the plugs are the right color now, so I know I am close.

Isn't the idle supposed to be set between 1200 and 1500?

Dan...comfortable enough with his manhood to ride a 600.
