I was wondering if the zx6r and the zx9r share the same shock? I have a 98 G1 model and I can get my hands on a ohlins off a zx9r same year,anyone know[?]
They have different model numbers, so who knows. I recommend you e-mail ohlins to check to see if it would be possible to reconfigure it for your bike.
Even if the shocks have the same length, they will have different spring and damping rates. The wet weights and wheel rates of the pair of bikes are quite different.
I used to have an '00 ZX-9R and was told by a top A grade rider that the ZX-9 is much better with a standard shock out of an '00 ZX-6R. I assume it wouldn't work as well the other way around.
Re-reading the original post, if the Ohlins shock fits, you could buy a new spring of the correct rate and get the shock re-valved. If the shock is cheap enough to start with, it could be worth it. Maybe you should check at a local dealership, wrecker or somewhere like:
