I just joined and after reading a bunch of posts, I feel old! I am (only) 31 but get the feeling the majority of posters are younger. I have a 2001 6R and it is my passion. So we have something in common. But is our age?

And I was also wondering, if there are any other members who are married with kids still enjoying the sport? I feel it is hard to meet women who ride, especially moms. How many women do you have here, moms or not?

My story? learned in 1989 on a ninja 250. Never rode again 'cept on the back. Then in 1999 hubby wanted a bike (after a serious wreck in 1996) and I told him sarcastically "you want a bike, u have to buy me one!". 3 wks later he had a ZRX1100 and I had (after much insistance) a ninja250. It all came back to me like I had been riding all along. That 250 was much fun. Then one windy day we were riding, we came to a red light after the wind was kicking my a$$ all over the road...I mentioned i was scared cuz of it. He offered to switch bikes. LOL Big mistake! We rode up into our drive way and i yelled...."you are phucked, i want more power!!!!". 5 weeks later I had my 2001 ZX6R. I love it! No other bike moved me like it. I love to ride hubbies ZRX1100, but it does not move my soul like my bike.

Lots more story to tell, but Ill spare you all...for now!

Tgal ;)

Awww.. You're not old at all, what are you talking about? You're a mom too? That's so kewl.. I wish I can imagine my mother riding when she was your age =) I'm actually 26.. dunno about everyone else..

You know what's funny? Both me and my gf have started riding about the same time.. her on her 250 and me on the 6r.. the other night I let her ride my bike around the parking lot and she's been itching to ride it again since.. hehe..

Keep on w/ the stories. I've also seen more and more women riding sportsbikes these days and that's pretty cool!

I'm 27, my girlfriend is 30, she rides a 250 (Honda BabyBlade CBR250RR).

She loves it.

I want her to upgrade to something bigger eventually so she can
keep up with me :)

Dan.

30, mairied, 2 kids, one 7 & the other 4 in November. I've been riding since I was 5 and my wife has been riding behind me since high school. Just this summer we got here a little Yamaha SR-250 to learn on. So far I think she's more of a passenger than a rider, but you never know. I have an'02 yellow ZX-6R, got it back in May for a b-day gift to myself and can't get off the dam thing.

Welcome :) and ride safe.

It's days like this I wish I still did drugs!

Hey, I just joined too. In fact, just to reply to Tgal. I'm ... older than you... and a new rider. Just got my bike in July, ninja 250. And just like you, if my hubby was going to get one, so was I! He bought the ZX-6R. Anyway, we have 2 kids 13 & 11. They think it's the coolest thing, and can't wait till they get theirs :) I love my 250, it's really a great fit, but hubby wants to upgrade, and is hoping I'll take his. Not to sound like a wuss, but, it feels a bit much for me right now. I agree with the wind situation though, it feels like I'm being tossed around on the 250, so a bigger bike may be way to go. You've got me hopeful!

Later,

lv2ryd :)

Hey Tgal.
I'm another female here. Don't have any children but I am married.
I started out on a 250 as well.
I don't know where you live and if you ever did much riding on the Interstate on your 250 but that is the worst place to get jerked around by the wind from being lightweight and having a small bike.
I learned to deal with it but I didn't like it that's for sure.
My husband is into bikes and of course that's how I got into it.
I've been riding for two years now.
I moved to the ZX-6R in February and I absolutely LOVE IT.
But, for those still on a 250, I suggest get all the experience you can on it before you move up. It will make you a LOT more confident when you do move up and therefore, have loads more fun.

I'm 23 but mature in my age. All the guys I ride with are 25-35. You can usually tell by the type of posts on this board how old someone is. Especially those whom post comments the same over and over....

I’m 40. Married with two kids 11 & 16. I started on 750 Katana. Was a mistake. The bike is way too heavy, and not handling wind too good either. Sold it and bought 6r in March. What a difference. It just cuts trough the wind, comparing to katana.
My wife doesn’t ride, so I have to ride alone. I wish to have some company, but to my surroundings bike is something strange and dangerous. That's my story...

30 is not old, I am 27 and I ride with my hunny all the time. I went out and bought her a (yup you guess it) Ninja 250 because I didn't want to ride her around anymore =)

She loves it! Hell I even love the 250 but I would not let her ride my bike. I am sure she can handle it but I don't want to chance it. I don't let anyone ride my bike.

Welcome to the board.

I'm 30 and married with two kids and I ride my '02 6R every day, weather permitting. Unfortunately, my wife won't even ride on the back much less ride a bike of her own. Still, she's very supportive of this and all my hobbies.

Hi all, i'm 20(be 21 on the 31st), been riding for 9 months!!! While I am still fairly new to riding, my 2002 zx-6r is my second bike!! My first was a 1992 zx-6d (aka, a heavy pig). I loved that bike and put over 15,000 miles on it in 8 months! I bought my 02 just a little over a month ago, and already have over 3,000 miles on it! while I do ride it to work everyday, I also do on an average of 300 miles on the weekends of nothing but twisties and backroads!!!

Hey, I was feeling pretty darned old 'till I seen that 40 number. I am 38. I have been riding for over 17 years. I don't ride a 6R, I currently have an '02 ZX12R. However, when I got my new 12R, we sold my wifes '96 6R and got her a new '02 6R in pearl yellow. It is her 4th bike in 5 years of riding. When she started out, I got her a used VTR250 Honda. Started out just pushing her around the horse pasture cause she was too scared to start it. I gradually taught her each new skill individually, starting with the brakes, then added clutch, then shifting, etc. After a month of practice, we both went and took the MSF safety course (which EVERYONE should). Two months later, I had to trade the 250 up to a CBR600. The CBR600 was replaced the following year with the '96 ZX6R. Women make great riders. They ride much safer than men do without letting their ego's get in the way.

Hey, I'm 31 too. I feel old when talking about my age but I look like I'm 23 with the babyface thing and it's only how you feel right?. :) Anyway, Not married.. too much of a picky ass to be in that situation right now. I've been into bikes for what seems like forever. I've ridden dirtbikes practically my whole life but just bought my 01 this June. So this is my first real streetbike. It is incredible and I should have done this sooner. On second thoughtm judging by how crazy I was on db's, it probably was for the best that I waited and grew in maturity a little. :)

In the same boat here:

30 years old, divorced
Learned how to "really" ride on some 2 stroke 250 when my family moved overseas (Tokyo) some 13 years ago (Did the MSF thing before moving over there with my dad). Forgot about bikes for a while upon my return, then got back into it about 4 or so years ago on an ex500 . Got a vtr1000, totaled it (thank you left hand turning lady right in front of me), and have the '00 zx6r.

Ride safe
