1) Take the cotter pin out of the axle nut
2) Take axle nut off -- use a big breaker bar to get leverage. Spec is close to 100 ft/lbs.
3) You need two pliers/wrenches. Tighten with bith pliers/wrenches on one side -- otherwise the adjusting nut just spins.
4) Lift the rear of the bike up, drop it down on the rear wheel. Hard. Do this a couple of times.
5) Check chain slack.
6) Put axle nut back on to torque spec.
7) Check chain slack. Redo if necessary.
7) Put cotter pin back in.

The chain on my '99 ninja is getting loose so I wanted to tighten it. So far I haven't been able to loosen the rear axle nut to adjust the chain slack. I'm using the tools in the kawi set. When I try to unscrew the rear axle nut it just spins on both sides. I'm spinning the axle instead of unscrewing it. Do I need an allen wrench on both sides, one stuck to the ground so it wouldn't spin? What should I do?
