Lowering the bike

well, I just recently lowered my 02 ZX6r with lowering links that i purchased from
http://www.muzzys.com/M1200-SL/

-theyre kinda expensive, you may be able to buy cheaper ones from ebay. But anyway,

They worked great, I put them on the middle setting and can notice a huge difference. I also had some guy I know lower the triple tree about one inch. It took him like 15 minutes to do. (really easy) I thought it would affect the ride but to be honest, I dont notice much of a difference when I ride. All I know is that the bike feels great. Im flat footed now and Im only 5'6. I can maneuver the bike with ease and I love it. The only thing is that the kickstand needs to be shortened now. The bike is almost straight up now with the stock kickstand and Im afraid it can be easily tipped over. But I will fix that next week. I know a guy that will take about an inch or a liitle more from the kickstand and reweld it back. I can send you pics of my bike in its new lower setting and can email them to you so you know how it looks. I think you should do the same thing.
Oh and by the way. It took about 25 minutes with 2 people to put the links on so dont let some shop try and rip you off. Let me know if you have any questions and as soon as I take the pics I will email them to you. Probably tomorrow or tuesday. Good Luck.

MD, I just read on another post that you had put an undertail on your zx and wandered where you purchased it. Also what about other little odds and in accessories you put on your bike, just for some ideas.

Hey guys me again...it seems after i get off the board i think of other things to ask. I would love to lower my bike because while at an intersection or just sitting there i am tip toeing my bike and do not stand flat footed. And granted this is only a 600 bike and I am only 5'10". My friends all tell me to purchase a "wishbone", but I also read that there are four preset suspension settings for my bike that might lower it also. Ok being a crotch rocket virgin, i have no idea how and what to do. Also I am looking a some minor accessories to put on the bike. I do love the tire hugger for the rear wheel and how it looks and Im also looking at doing some carbon fiber nick nacks such as heel gaurds etc...Also i dont think I want to polish out my frame. I kinda like the way it looks now. What do you guys recommend.

Thats correct Sandy Singles,

I just put a new undertail on my bike and it looks very nice. I got it from ebay for $185 w/shipping from these people
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34284&item=2419760849
and it was supposed to be factory color (yellow) but it was a little off when I got it and also, the light integrator I got from them didnt work. I was pretty disapointed. Ill send you a pic soon. You can take a chance with that item, its the cheapest I could find. I bought my clear tail light and front clear signals from
http://www.shopserv3.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=CA (www.clearalternatives.com)
-they have the best prices. The targa rear seat cowl and the yoshi slip on I purchased from www.imotorcyclestore.com - they have pretty good prices and was the cheapest I could find. Their yoshi's are on sale and at a very good price - best on the net. The rear cowl was expensive, it was like $200 I think and the slip on was like $380. Ebay is always good to check what prices items are going for but you can usually find the same product at some other site. Like that undertail they sent me is from www.hotbodiesracing.com. You might as well go straight to the source if youre going to buy it. Everything I put on myself except the links and its pretty easy to do. Let me know if you have any q's.

I don't quite understand.... You're 5'10 and you're having problems reaching the ground? I'm only 5'8 and I'm just about flat footed. Maybe you just need some boots with heels on them? It's actually pretty easy to do everything you need to do with only one foot on the ground. The only time it gets tricky is backing out of an inclined parking space. But just try not to set yourself up for failure like that, and you'll be fine. Nice waves on Saturday, huh? I think I'm starting to love surfing almost as much as riding. Peace,
Greg
Im only 5'8 myself and at first when I picked up my 03 636 I thought I was gonna have the same problem. Also Im a newbie just started riding this year and I had the bike just about a month now and it seems fine. I left it stock height and when im at a light i keep only one foot on the ground while the other is on the rear break.
5'4" here, stock height. Definitely not flat footed though. [:I]

It's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden stop...

Thanks MD, I just put on a Yosh Tit slip on and WOW!!! what a difference in sound. Ill look up those undertails. I did see some on there that werent painted and the price were about $87, but i dont think that there was a license plate bracket provided.

Are you hugging the tank or sitting too far back in the saddle? I'm less than 5'10 and can plant both feet on the deck only when I hug the bra. I had a YZFR6 (RIP), that had a bad rear shock. No compression or dampening. Rode like a 2x4 & I could not get both feet confidently on the deck until it was replaced. I doubt your suspension is bad, but would guess that your riding posture is the suspect? Good luck.

Your height does`nt matter its your inside leg measurement. I`m 5`6`` and have an inside leg of 29 inches so I only get one foot on the ground or both on tip toe. Would`nt mind a lowering kit though
