My understanding of not using car oil is because of the extra shear loading that the transmission puts out and the fact that the clutch is wet. If you drive a Ducati with a dry clutch then I can maybe see it, but not a wet clutch.
I took my bike to the shop yesterday to get my valves inspected and my plugs regapped/replaced. The mechanic asked me if i wanted him to change my oil. I said no, i just changed it. He asked me if i used regular car oil, and i told him i used Mobil 1 20w50.
He shook his head at me and told me i couldn't use anything but motorcycle oil because it has a higher zinc content which will prevent valve damage. Anyone know if this is true? Or is he just trying to sell me some of his expensive oil?
