I have a black joe rocket phoenix jacket..... I love it, it breaths great when you are on the bike and it has a back zipper on it that will allow you to attach it to your jeans with a detachable zipper part and safety pins..... TWO THUMBS UP

I picked up a FeildSheer Sonic Air jacket and love it. breathe's really good, leather & pads where needed most, a liner when it's chilly starting ot in the mornings and 2 different zippers in the back for pants. I went down to pick up a Joe Rocket and decided on the FeildSheer for 3 reasons over the J/R. 1 the leather, 2 the liner and 3 the price, for $50 less than the J/R it seems you get more.

I have the JR Phoenix Jacket pictured above. Same color too.
My husband has the Teknic.
The Teknic was cheaper (about $80) than the JR (about $120).
Me or my husband has not went down wearing it but I was riding with a guy that was wearing the Joe Rocket Phoenix and he went down with it. He wasn't going very fast (probably between 40 & 50) but it held up great. The guy is a pretty big guy and the only thing it did was leave a small snag in the elbow area. If you didn't know to look for it, you wouldn't even see it. He didn't really slide or anything because he crashed on the road and then rolled into the grass in a ditch. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Anyway, I love mine. I ride a Hell of a lot more this year than last year just for that very reason. Now, I don't sweat my ass off when I go riding in the HOT GEORGIA HEAT. :D

I've heard really good stuff about this one (Spidi Net), it seems to be the best (CE approved armor) but I think it's the most expensive too. Think I might just pick up a perforated leather one for those real hot days:

I tried several and the one I fell in love with was Firsgear Tex-Mash, but unfortunately no store had nether neither my size nor the color. All of the catalogs I called don’t have it too, since high demand, and stores ran out of it. I order it, but it’s in back order now for 2 months.
I’ll probably go with Phoenix or FeildSheer Sonic. Want to try it on again and see.
The thing that I don’t like about Phoenix is that elbow pads are sticking way too far and roll somewhere behind your hands one on top of another. Maybe it’s my impression, but I tried several and all seems to be the same.

While it's not a mesh jacket, I felt the need to chime in, as I've been down with mine. It's a full-perf Vanson - had the Vanson back protector only - I high-sided, ended up sliding down the road on my back with the bike on my stomach. It held up VERY well.

I have the JR Reactor. I have went down in it and at 45mph (I know not to fast but still). It held up well as in a few holes but nothing else. The armor held up great so all and all no road rash few bruises not bad all things considered<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Dam, where you OK?

Yeah - I faired pretty well, actually! I had a good amount of road-rash on my legs (was wearing jeans), an some on my back where the jacket slid up - but, that's what I get for leaving the full leathers at home! Hard part damage = a dislocated shoulder, and that's all, besides bruises, and all. (As a side note, the wreck also took my 1 day old Arai - dammit!) The jacket is still worn once in a while (new armor installed) for the "cool" factor - has some nasty gashes on the back (of course).

Insofar as the mesh jackets go - I'm all for 'em, for the armor, really - period. It helps.

You guys left out a few items that are currently new or have been out in the bike world for sometime now. These just came out from Fieldsheer, Sonic Air Pants. They are made from the same stuff your Sonic Air Jacket is, also, they too have leather added on for extra protection on the knees, hips, and butt. The pants are mesh lined and currently selling for $159.99 at www.fieldsheeronline.com . I didn't read all of the posts but I think you also left outthe Titanium Air Jacket. It is made out of mesh like the Sonic Air pants and jacket. The mesh is far more stronger from what I hear and it more finely put together(ie the mesh isn't so far spread out that you could fit a pencil through). All fieldsheer gear has CE approved armor. I am not a salesman, just telling you what I have heard and know :)
