Do they offer the same protection as pants that are sold for street riding purposes?

I'm asking because there are some good deals on those types of pants and I think they look awesome.

They may not offer the same abrasion resitance and a textile street pant, First Gear or who ever (leather is better) ....I would compare the material against the textile street pant....

Actually they are generally even thinner than a pair of textile pants. I gave up on using the moto-x pants along time ago for off road riding, they got tore up pretty easy. I just go to the surplus store and get cammies now.

Not even close. They're like jogging pants with knee pads in them.

Maybe I should've asked before I bought em.
Well I guess they could make nice wash cloth.

go to speedrag.com and check out their pants. Onl like $80 and they held up decent in my wreck. Still wore thru in the knee but I was sliding on my knee for a while
