glaucaster- I bet the riding will be better in SC. I wouldn't over load the forks by cranking the tie-downs too much. A three point tie down should be plenty. One on the swing arm clutch side if the front tire is turned left & tucked into the corner. We use a strap that goes around the throttle and covers the front brake to prevent the bike from moving or sliding around... Not necessary if you slam the tailgate tightly against the rear tire. I'd make real sure that all loose tie-down material is secure, so there are no surprises later. When I feel uncomfortable about a buckle, I tie a knot just below the buckle for peace of mind.
