The August 2011 issue of Motorcyclist magazine has a Class of 2011 Superbike Comparison. Here are the best lap times and the retail prices for the contenders (alphabetical order):

Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC SE- 1:52.5 (minutes and seconds) $22,499

BMW S1000RR- 1:53.8 $16,630 as tested

Ducati 1198SP- 1:54.7 $21,995

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R- 1:53.9 $13,799

The Aprilia is fastest, but the Kawasaki has the best bang for the buck- you can use the cash left over for a more powerful exhaust, sprocket size changes, lighter wheels etc.

They also reviewed a KTM RC8R Race Spec separately (1200cc), and rated it highly for track use.

The BMW is going to be the fastest in the hands of a non-professional, by a good margin.

As soon as I win the lottery, I'll buy a new 250 Ninja track bike, do track days and take track schools for a year, then I'll buy either a new Suzuki GSXR-600 for a track bike or a used 250cc 2-stroke MotoGP race bike for another year, then I will rent or buy all five of the 1000cc plus bikes above and write my own review for them. If I crash and go to the hospital, I will not have to worry about losing my job and leaving my wife and 2 children less supported financially.

For anyone that has rode these literbikes or other bikes, I would enjoy reading your reviews for them, and how they compare to budget bikes like the 2008 ZZR600 and the 2002 Honda 600cc cruiser I am taking turns riding on the street since May of this year.

And you don't need a 250 to learn the track. Take the ZZR.

Bikes are cheap in the USA I must say. For $14,000 (9600 euro) you can only buy a Z750 over here.

The ZX10R costs like 18.000 euro's, that is $26,000 :D The BMW, Aprilia and Ducati aren't much more expensive than the ZX10R, a few 1000 euro's I believe :D
