Where abouts in NY you from?

Just keep looking! Be patient, something will end up popping up.

I personally wouldn't recommend an SS 636 for your first bike, but hey, everyone has their own ideas.

You've probably heard it before, but, if you want to learn Great technique and become a Great rider, I'd recommend starting on something smaller. Personally, I recommend either 250's or 650's.

If you want to learn to ride you need a 250.

If you're happy to just learn to survive, restraining the performance of the bike, go ahead, but take out life insurance.
