Just wanted to say hi to the people here. I'm new to riding and motorcycles in general but so far I've enjoyed every moment of it. I took the safety course and bought myself a candy blue 2013 ninja 650 and hope to learn a lot about this bike here on this forum.

Question: how do I accelerate fast enough after a red light turns green so I'm far enough away from the other cars? What gear and how fast of an rpm should I be at? I'm a conservative driver/rider but I think it'd be safer to do this when I'm up front than otherwise. Thanks!

Welcome here.

For the maximum power you would shift a Ninja 650 at 8,500 rpm for each of the lower gears.

The owners manual probably has much lower recommended shift points, for better gas mileage and more safety.
