Are the 2002 ZX-6R rims powder coated or just painted?

I heard they are actually powder coated but my friend says that is total bullshit because powder coating is expensive and Kawasaki wouldn't spend the money doing it to the ZX-6R....

can you polish them then? I would think powder coating would make paint stripper ineffective....

and can you powder coat something that was already powder coated? Like could I re-powder coat the rims?

Well, I maybe want to go with black rims or mayber polish them. I know if they are powder coated, forget about polishing them, not worth the work. But can you powder coat the black? I have heard so many contradicting ideas about it.

I bought 2000 Zx6R rims that were already polished off of ebay.com. The best thing you should do is look to buy rims that come off of a 2001 or 2000 bc then you know for sure they are painted. By the way if the price is right I still have my stock 2000 ZX6R rims that are green and would be perfect to polish. Let me know if you are interested.

if they're already powdercoated, any powdercoating shop can sandblast em. my stock ex500 wheels had some kinda finish on em when i took them to the local shop. they blasted off the finish and PCed them black for $100.

This last weekend I polished the lips of the front rim on my '02 ZX-6R, they are most deffently painted. The rims on my bike are a gun metal gray type of color and they stripped really easily and polished up nice. When I get a chance I'll re-size and post a pic. I haven't taken the time to do the back yet, so it looks kinda funcky.

I only polished the lips, on each side of the rim, not the hole rim. All though I am concidering taking them back off and polishing the hole rim. But I digres, It took me about 4 hours take the wheel off, polish it and though it back on. The longest part was taping the center off to protect it from the paint stripper. I was some stuff I got at pepboys called airplane stripper, or something like that. Anywho, applied that and let it sit for about 20-30 minutes and almost all the paint was gone. Alittle elbow grease with some mothers metal polish and then somw maquiers(sp?) polish for protectant and what a shine.

I just tried a test spot on my green 02's, and the stuff didn't even tarnish it. Let it set about 30 minutes too. Cleaned it up real nice though. Maybe I didn't get a stripper strong enough, or are the colors powered? I'm thinking I'll just find another set and polish them instead.

I will get photo's of my '02's polished front rim up as soon as I can. They are definately painted, at least mine are.

I used some stuff from pepboys called airplane striper and it took less than 2 minutes and the paint was ready to peal off.
