you actually have it backwards the 2003 filter is the 0002 number and the 2002 is the 1070... i went to my dealorship and told them about the new filter ... the parts guy didn't realize they had changed and they ordered me in some...

i know I didn't answer your question but for my bike just to be safe i'm going to use the 0002 :)

Yes, I know this has been discussed. And yes, I did a search...;)

And that's why I'm confused! [B)] People have said that the official 2003 636 filter is part #16097-1070 and (I guess) the 2002 6R filter is part #16097-0002, and that both will work. ??? So, if I still can't find an official 2003 filter, is it safe to use the 2002 filter (part #16097-0002)?

Thanks.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HERE IN HAWAII, THE DEALER DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A DIFFFERENT PART NUMBER. THEY EVEN SAID THAT THEY HAVE NEVER ORDERED ONE OF THESE NEW FILTERS. THEY MUST NOT BE CHANGING THE FILTERS ON CUSTOMERS BIKES WHEN THEY ARE DOING SERVICE WORK. I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE MY OIL WITHOUT CHANGING THE FILTER, I GUESS IT IS BETTER THAN NOTHING BUT I AM STILL UNDER 600 MILES.
