Hey guys,

Ive done a load of research as i need to get some new tyres from my zx6r ('99)
the rear is 170/60/17.

Ive decided that i would like to get the pilot powers 2ct but they dont seem to come in my size,

the closes sizes i can find are 160/60/17 or 180/55/17

(the '98 zx6r i believe has 160/60/17 on the rear, but i could be wrong)

Can anybody shed some light? is it okay to change tyre size? Ive always beleived things are designed a certain way for a reason and i dont really want to mess the handling up or something.

Thanks or any advice!

While the 98-99 models did come with 170/60 from the factory the rear rim is still 5.5 inches wide and a perfect fit for 180/55 tires.

The 95-97 models had skinnier wheels and tires out back though.

Thanks univox, would these have any adverse effect on the handling?

Would i still use the standard 120/60 size on the front?

Cheers :)

180/55 on a 5.5" rim is a great combo and you really can't go wrong there. Generally wider tires won't turn in as fast but 170/60 is a little stretched on that rim and it might actually turn in slower because it's flattened out.

For the front you can stick with 120/60 if you choose to. 120/70 would give you a bit more cushion for potholes and you could always drop the triples just a tad to compensate for the added height.
