Polishing rims

I am finally getting my green ZX636 after 6 months of saving and searching around bike dealers. I got mine cheap cause it was the last green one and they wanted to clear the floor to make space for the '03 models which are due in about a month. I payed $13000 Australian, out the door with 12months rego. Not bad, hey? I am also getting the rims polished which is costing an extra AUD$300 Is this a reasonable price?. In regards to running in the bike, the manual says to stay below 4000rpm for the first 800km. Do people really stick to that limit. Someone told me that just before the 1000km service you should "open up the bike" i.e. use the full rev range. Is this ok for the bike?

Stayig below 4000rpm is impossible, you cant even go on the highway.
I stayed under 4000 for the first day, then upto 6000 for 3 weeks, then full open.
