Poor brakes-2001,J1 ZX6R

Hi all

Need advice, I have had my bike for a couple of years and got use to the bad front brake, however since riding several bikes, I realise that they are woeful.

I've had the front bled professionally, no difference.
Replaced the pads, no difference.
I feel the calipers may be old and wasted. Some posts suggest changing the Tomika calipers for ones off a GSXR of similar year.

Anyone know which calipers bolt straight on? without changing discs etc. Can't afford to buy new ones

You'd be better off rebuilding (install new orings) your calipers and master cylinder!
My brakes are rock hard, and everything is still oem original 2007 with 41,000 miles (except the fluid which is flushed twice a year)
One of my customers has an 01 ZX6R (j) and he has 52,000 miles and he switched to EBC HH pads and thought he lost some stopping power from the oe pads??? Probably as a result of pushing the brake dust and road grime into the seals when he had to open them up to get the new pads in.

Did you check your rotors and make sure they are flat?
Thanks for the response.

Firstly, yeh the rotors/discs are fine, not too much wear. I took the calipers out yesterday and on the inner face of both calipers, there is only one (lower) piston working. The others I could get moving by jamming the free ones, however they won't budge on normal braking.

I'm thinking the caliper is done, is it worth stripping them and cleaning up the pistons?

Still thinking bandit or GSXR calipers might be the way forward if they fit???

Any advice us greatly appreciated
