How does the speedomoter pick up the speed?

Reason I ask is that I was gonna order a new front spkt, but I noticed the one I was going to buy didn't have any holes in it (at least the picture didn't) and wanted to make sure the speedo would still pick up whatever it has to. For some reason I always thought the sensor going into that cover would read the holes. Or am I nutz????

BTW it's a sprocket specialist spkt, if anyone is familiar with them.

They can't make a spkt that kills your speedo can they?

Depends on what year your bike is. Newer models (sorry don't have years, and it's like 2:30am here) have speedo that reads from the engine. My friend's 250 has speedo hook up to front wheel. In any case if number of teeth is the same you will be fine.

rdandy5875,

The speedo sensor on your bike is near the transmission output shaft. Although a new, solid sprocket will affect the clocks, it will not foil the speedo pickup.

Thanks Guys, I should have said it's an '02.
What "clocks" are you talking about Rob Lee? Not the time right, (confused).
I usually orderonline, but I think I'll call them on this one jut to be sure.
Thanks Again
