unless it is an aftermarket tensioner it is self adjusting, meaning, that you cannot adjust it.
This is actually a common fault that started with the G series ('98-'99) motor. Kawasaki redesigned the tensioner to stop this problem. It didn't work. Needless to say they went back to the old style.
To cut a long story short. replace it.

ya, i have that problem too. i ride a 98 zx6r. some guy that owns the same bike as me told me that they but in a tensioner from zx9r and it seems to solve the problem. anyways, do you guys know if the 2001 zx6r tensioner will fit in the 98 zx6r??
