I did the same thing on my yellow '02 with some yellow tape I had kicking around. Looks good IMO. The 2 round breaklights looks better to me.

i did the same thing as grunt. i just went to a sign shop and asked for a scrap piece of silver vinyl (sticky), the stuff they make graphics etc out of. i stuck it on to the lights, cut around them and pushed down in between the round parts. looks great and guaranteed not to fall off. hope this helps.
