Today I went to a local shop that specializes in moto suspension setup ($50 and they set up your entire suspension according to your weight, riding style etc!), and apparently, it seems my rear shock is blown! I only have about 13,000 km on the bike (like 9k miles), and the shock is gone Shows how good it was to begin with!

The guy recommended either rebuilding the stock shock for $250, rebuilding it with better components for around $500, or going to a Penske shock for $900!! Did some checking around on these forums concerning a replacement shock for my ZZR-600, and it seems 03+ ZX6R shocks should fit, as well as ZX10 shocks.

Before I start my hunt on eBay, I wanna make sure I get the right parts. It seems the 05+ shock is a better unit, made by Showa, correct? It also looks better, so I might go for that. But someone said its suited better to 180+ lbs riders, any truth to this? I'm around 165lbs with no gear on, so I guess around 175 with gear, which comes close.

The guy told me my spring is PERFECT for my weight, so is it possible to use this spring on the 05 ZX6R shock? I dont wanna screw it up.

Also read that the ZX10 shock will fit, and that its better suited for lighter riders. Think that would be better? What year ZX10 am I looking at here?

rebuild for $250....tell him to kiss your ass....I paid 150 for a revalve job at tracksideengineering.com. A rebuild should only be $75-80. $500 for putting in a race tech valve is pretty steep too.

Simplest and cheapest thing to do....Buy a stock shock and linkage from a 05-06 zx636 and swap it on...$60...bolts right in if you get the linkage.

I have this on my track bike, I am about the same weight as you and its pretty good. The increments that you can buy springs cover a 20-25 pounds weight range....so don't let the 10# difference worry you.

Yeah, exactly! Why rebuild when I can get a new (used) and better shock for less than $100? I dont race, except the occasional track day, so I dont need anything hardcore.

I'm looking on ebay right now for 636 shocks, but came across a good deal on an 05 ZX10R shock...is that a good option?

i have the 05 ZX10 shock and wishbone. love it. i am 210lbs. to me the 636 shock was too stiff, but then i am 210lbs.

best you can do is measure your stock shock length, hole to hole......track down a comparable new model with a similar weight and hope for the best.
