1 piece snowmobile suit--$65, eBay (I put a hoodie in my backpack. Anything more than a t-shirt under this suit makes me sweat).

Heated gloves--$150, Cycle Gear (fuck glove liners, they cramp my hands and don't work for shit...might extend cold riding by 15 minutes at best)

Race boots--$60, eBay (inexpensive find a few years ago)

Thick socks--$??, Walmart (gotta change out of these at work or my feet will sweat)

Baraclava--$50, eBay (I don't remember exactly how much I paid, but this thing is invaluable)

When I get to work I peel off the suit, then change out of my thick socks and boots into some socks and shoes I keep in my locker. And yes, I wear my leather jacket over the suit. I've been in this setup down to 17° and stayed warm. My bikes don't stay parked unless I'm working on them. I have gear for all weather situations. F driving a car.

Folks,

You just have to do it. Laying the bike up for half a year is pants. Problem is I'm not easy with hard riding in the cold and hard riding is the only way with a sports bike. It's going to be four months til another knee down. :(

Cold weather riding is fine and all, but... I think I'm going to have to put the bike away soon.

snow, snow, snow, snow, SNOW... it wont be long before we'll all be there with snow

Proper gear is the ticket. plus heated grips. been down to 12F without windchill without much to complain about, except the fogging visor, and the cold tires/road/ice. are there any tires that work well enough for these low temps? i feel the first 10 minutes on power pures is like riding on ice. have seen a ton of bmw guys riding even in the snow, i'm sure there have to be better tires for the winter.

I've always ridden all Winter, but with a short (12 mile) commute now there's only a couple of minutes difference between the bike and the car - a lot less than the time it takes to pull my gear on and off at each end of the ride, so when it's still an hour before dawn and the rain is freezing as it hits I tend to get in the car. The car is cheaper to run than the Streety anyway.

So far as cold goes, the only real issue I have is my knees when it drops below about 5C. Gortex rain pants that keep the wind chill off solve the problem on an unfaired bike. Biggest problem is keeping my glasses clear. A pinlock takes care of the visor.

Long trips are OK, but it isn't really worth gearing up for a 20 minute ride. Must be getting old lol.

i havent worn long johns once riding these past 2 winters. temps have been down to 20's/low 20's so far.

as long as my hands and my neck is warm, i really dont have any issues.
neck so far is good but hands are starting to get annoying after 15-20 mins in those temps.

Craziest thing to see riders in the winter! Riding in Hawaii, I quickly forget that there is more than one season until I went back to Cali for Christmas this month. Sure going to miss my year-round riding weather when I transfer.

If your gloves have some room in them, maybe you can put the hand warmers inside the gloves.
most likely dont, they're already insulated and pretty snug. and its not my palms that get cold, its the fingers

I live in Cen-Cal and consider it a great climate to ride in. There is only a 3-4 month winter and still low 40s most days. If you want sucky weather you should move to Wisconsin or sone place like that with only 3-4 months riding season and temps below 20.
