Our airbox has a mesh screen on it, that I think is useless because the air filter will catch anything that might hurt the engine. Now, maybe if we take off this mesh screen we might Get an increase in air flow? and hopefully 1-2hp or better throttle response, but!, I want to know what you guys think, is it really there for a reason?, has anyone here taken it off?. what do you guys think?

you mean the metal mesh screen that covers the ram air ducts from little rocks and flies? i dont think that the screen holds back alot of air. and 1 and 2 horses is alot from removing a screen...but you wont know until you try it, right? im kidding dont try it. i thinkyou will only be wasting your time. there is another post here in the forum where somebody removed some tubes or plastic near the carbs. check that out first.

Do you mean the one in the air box???This one basicaly keeps out mice and such....don't laugh,it has happened before.Or if for some reason the filter becomes damaged and falls apart, this screen keeps stuff from being sucked into the carbs.
The one on the front of the ram air tubes is also to keep out small creatures and such.

I look after by bike wayyyy tooo much...cleaning the filter at least twice a year and other shit.......the screen in the box could be removed but nil results could found......but if you are doing alot of other mods along with it, then all is good.....

if you are reffering to the one inside the airbox, it's there to keep some objects small enough to fit through the front ram air intake grill, from getting into the air filter.
Do you really want your air filter getting hit with flies and mosquitoes and small pebbles?

You can probobly take it out without much risk, but it may void any warranties.

What basassjake said about it keeping peices of the air filter out of the carbs, thats not right, this mesh screen is above/before the air filter.

well, it seems that not everyone knows what the heck im talking about. I am not talking about the screen in the front of the bike on the Ram air intake, I am clearly talking about the one IN THE AIRBOX. apparently the only person that knew what I was talking about was "badassjake". I can see how it would keep pieces of the air filter out in case it falls apart, but a K&N filter Will not fall apart, and the mesh screen on the front of the bike in the Ram air intake will take care of the mice and other routens that try to enter the Air ducts. I'm sure someone has tried this.

juan, just take it off and see what happens. we all need someone to be a guinea pig.j/k take it off and drive around with it for a day on the freeway and city streets. if it feels the same put it back on, its not worth the chance of getting something stuck for no gain, right? tells us how it works out. good luck.
