Hey everybody I have a question for you guys. I've looked at the rear seat cowl cover for the back seat and what I'm wondering is if you guys think that it looks just like a fiberglass seat cowl. If so then I'm gonna go ahead and get this and save a whole lot of money. Ohh by the way if you check it out its the 2002 green one. At second-look.com

Hey Vito,

I think the seat skins are decent but not great, besides you will not save a ton of money.

The seat skins cost about $100 + shipping and then another $50 or so to get them installed. The seat fiberglass cowl cost $200 shipped to your door from targa. http://www.targa-acc.com

The Targa cowl is pattern matched, the seat cover is not.
The Targa Cowl is color matched, the seat cover is off and fades
The Targa Cowl is flush with the tail, the seat cover is not.

I made mine so that you can quickly interchange the cowl and the seat with no tools. (had to cut a small piece [2 inch square] on the bottom of the stock seat)

So unless your really good with stapling upholstery than your not going to save a lot a money.

Also buykawasaki has seat covers that match all year zx6r. I especially like the 2002 seat covers. The rider seat continues the stripes its really sharp. I think they are $99 for both. it's not listed on the website but they have them =)

I would say spring for the COWL

Here are some pics to help you understand how I made the seat cowl and the seat interchangable.

This picture shows you the bracket that you need to attach to secure the seat cowl (it attaches to the stock rider seat bracket)

The stock seat will not fit with the bracket attached, if you wanted to put on the seat you would have to take off the bracket which requires tools (pain in the ass)

I took my Dremel and hacked away the plastic that prevents the seat to slide on. 2 sq inches - Look at this pic:

Its really simple to do and very effective, I have no problems changing the seat cowl to the seat. It slides right on.

Also make sure you fit the cowl and bracket properly, center the bracket and give the nipple the correct length to lock close, you'll see what I mean when you get it.

Guys
Kiernan racing .com sell the Targa cowl for US$169.95
I have bought off them over the net and the stuff was here
in Australia in 7 days which is pretty good I think
Plus the quality was good as well.
just my 2c worth

If I remember correctly, it cost me about $180 (including shipping) for the fiberglass color-matched cowl straight from targa. I have a yellow '01 6R, but went with the cowl for the '02 model because it is solid yellow and I wanted a slightly more bold look than the black/purple mica '01 model would have given.

Dave, great suggestion on the mod to the stock seat. Since I installed the cowl about 6 months ago I haven't had a need for the rear seat, but my brother was just visiting last night and wanted to go for a ride so I had to wrestle with that freakin bracket to get the stock seat back on, and was thinking the whole time that if I could just cut that little chunk out of the stock seat I wouldn't have any more problems. Now I just need to get my hands on a dremmel. :)

Dave, I was just looking a little more closely at this pic...it looks like the bracket for the targa seat has left marks where it presses against the inside of the stock seat. I was just curious, have you noticed any bending in the bracket or anything from the tight fit? I figure you probably would have mentioned it already but thought I'd ask just in case.

Hey Guys,

I have been so busy these last few days sorry about not getting back to any of you.

The bracket has not been bent in any way. It presses against the foam and I am sure when someone is on it the more it will press. But I tested it and you do not feel the bracket when you site on it so the weight of the passenger does not bend it.

I've had my bike like this for 2 years and so far all is well =)

Cool! Thanks for the info. I dug out the dremel last night but was too tired to work on it any more. At my age I've gotta spread these projects out over a few days.
