I am looking into changing the gearing on my ZZR. A few questions, and explanations on my thinking. I cannot decide if I wanna go +3, +4, or +5 on the rear... now for the thinking part [:p]

+3 - would be just like dropping on tooth in the front without the chain strain...

+4 - halfway between 3 and 5 ? lol

+5 - would be like running the "standard" -1 +2 setup everyone goes to.

Now for the questions. What effects will this have on the bike? Top speed wise? RPM wise?

Basic info, planning on a speedo healer... staying with the 525... Probably going with a Sprocket Specialists rear sprocket.

Also any recommendations on chains?

And last but not least standard rear on these is 40 tooth, correct?

your top speen is going to be shit. i would even ride on the high way with +3 or more. just my opion.
and your speedo will be way off. and the rpm are going to be much higher normally.
DONT GET A CHEAP CHAIN! its worth the money to get a good one. i had a friend that got a cheap 40 chain and it snapped on the highway fucked his tail fairing up the clutch cover was destroyer and his swingarm and rim got scratched up as well.
stock is 40

Isn't the "rule" one in the front equals three in the rear? So -1 is the same as going +3 in the rear, right? I would never cheap out on a chain... I have had bicycle chains snap... sucks!

I realize the tach is gonna be way off... that's why I plan on getting a speedo healer. How much will the top speed suffer with a +3 rear (prob. won't go any higher than that), granted it is a different bike but a buddy of mine has a 04 636 that is +10 or +20(or something insane like that) it is his stunt bike, he's good for about 90mph, would +3 really kill the top that much? I plan to leave the front stock size.

Thanks for the response LL.
IOT, how do you like that set up?
