When I go to start the bike I hit the starter button and the starter just spins and spins and doesn't engage the larger gear to spin the motor. What is missing or how do I fix it?

the starter clutch is shagged you need to split the engine and replace it

Please Don't split the cases as the starter clutch is behind the Generator cover !
