I see there are two different part numbers for the CA and 49-state models:

35023-1538 FENDER-REAR [CA]
35023-1540 FENDER-REAR [CN,US]

What's the difference? I need to replace mine and don't want to accidentally buy the wrong one from a private party.

i dont think theres a diffrence, the reason the have a California and US model listed is because they made two kinds for the california emissions.

Well on the 00-02 bikes the California(CA) models had a charcoal box in the trunk did they not? I have the mounts for it on my 02, but the system is not there as its not a california bike.
I thought the pieces were identical, unless the california one has some more holes in it to route the extra hoses.

well since you are in california, just get the CA model, like CDN said, they are built for emmisions diffrently. i thought it was all mecahnical however, not cosmetically.

if your buying it from a dealer ask for the CA model, if its off some joe fromthe street there shouldnt be a problem, since it has the mounts already on there.
