Hi all

I have recently bought a ZX6R and am really enjoying it. Past bikes have included a CB 750 (a bit of power - no handling)
and a GPX 250 (no power - good handling)
I got greedy and wanted the whole package - enter the ZX6R ! (a second hand 1999 model).
I was wondering if anyone could tell me to check if the suspension settings are standard or whether the previous owner had played with them. If so I would like to return to standard settings and go from there.

Hope someone can help.

I have the factory manual for '95-'97 and they a probably pretty close. It says the rebound damping (top of front fork) has 12 or 13 clicks and normal (150 lb rider) is 7th click from fully clockwise). Compression Damping (bottom rear of front fork) has 11 or 12 clicks and normal is 7th click from fully clockwise. I set the sag on the front to about 1 3/16". To get mine to that I had to crank down the pre-load on the front all the way.

On the rear I set the sag to 1 3/8". I think the rear shock on the '95 - '97 is different but I would center the adjustment. On mine it shows 16 - 22 clicks on the compression and the normal setting is 12 clicks from full clockwise. On the rebound there or four setting and it says 2 is normal.

Thanx for your advice, I'll try it out tonight. The reason I am playing with the suspension is that the bike really sits up if I brake (gently) mid corner.

I appreciate your advice<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

I picked these settings up of a Euro ZX6R site and they have worked really well for me...

As to standing up while braking, your tires have a lot to do with that.

G1-G2 (1998-1999) recommended Suspension settings.
If you ride like a sane person, then leave well enough alone, if however fast is not fast enough, read on!

Rear
Static sag: 11mm 6mm with passenger
Loaded sag: 29mm 25mm with passenger
Compression 7 clicks
Rebound: 3 clicks 2 clicks for passenger
Ride Height: 10mm higher than standard
Tyre Pressure: track - 29psi (200 kpa) . Normal 38psi (262 kpa) for solo and 42psi (290 kpa) with passenger

Front
Static sag: 23mm
Compression: 5 clicks
Rebound: 1 click
Fork Height through top triple clamp: 3-5mm
Tyre Pressure: Track - 30psi (207 kpa) and 36psi (248 kpa) for normal road riding
Preload: 3 rings showing.

Note: The "click" settings are based on number of clicks from screw fully turned in.
Jeroen - the riders weight is not given but looking at the photos I would say he was 75-85 kg's. I only weigh a measly 68kg's without leathers and other kit and I find these settings perfect for me.
