I am real real stupid with tire theory, below are two pictures of the same tire. The first picture is of the tire with maybe 300 brand new miles which where broken in on Deal's Gap.

The second picture is now, with all the damned rain we have been having I prolly only have about 100 miles on it since i got back from deal's gap.

My question is why is it turning purplish near the edges?

Not sure what causes it but it is normal, all of mine do that. Probably due to heat cycles.

It's the oils and shit coming to the surface. You wear it off when you ride. My 016's did it REALLY bad year before last. Whole tire would turn purple between rides.
