I did my first track school over the weekend. And it was AMAZING! Riding on the street sucks in comparison now
. I've never scraped my pegs before (and HARD!) or had a tire COMPELETLY full of balled up rubber, with absolutly NO trace of a chicken strip to be found on front or rear. It was such a blast and I learned so much. There was such a difference from the frst laps compared to the final laps of the weekend. If you wanna learn, the speed will come FAST! I now have my race license too, so that's cool.
We had a small race at the end of the school, and I won my division on my ZX-6R. I had to start at the back of the field too cause I alomost missed the race as I was watching the guys that ran right before us. The 6R fought through the field and took the checkered flag. Along the way, it gobbled up (amoung others) a VTR, an RC51 (2nd and 3rd placers) a gixxer 1k and 750, etc. This probably sounds like I'm being cocky, but I'm not. I'm just excited about what a great time I had and how well the bike and I were able to gel. Some people may not have wanted to push their bikes too hard.
It was a fairly technical course, 1.6 miles, the Candian Superbike series runs there (Shubenacadie, NS). I'll be back for more next year. And I guess I can now go and run during the practive sessions when the amateur races are being held - even race, but I don't think I'm brave enought to take my street bike into an actual regional race.
If any of you guys get a chance to attand a track school, go for it. You'll be a much better rider with boatloads of confidance. Just don't go crazy, a few guys did go off (including a zx-6r ;( )I ran mine with OEM plastic, and w/o any frame sliders. Probably get some for next time. Here are a couple of pics (modem users beware, huge pics!):
I'm the 3rd bike here. The instructor on the sv650 was leading me around, and we're about to pass a backmarker before the start/finish straight:
Same spot, this was once when I was running solo after the instructor waved me by:
My bike, plus my umbrella girl slacking off sitting on the pit wall

Look at this sexy beast, and the doofus leaning on it

Catching a backmarker (F4) with the instructor watching my lines right on my heels:
