i CANT ride without my jacket, gloves, boots and helmet.. thats the bare minimum.

Gear certainly would've helped (I mean look at his face), but getting hit by a car that's going 80mph is going to do a lot of damage in any case.

But I 2nd everyone else's notion to wear gear on EVERY ride. I even wear ear-plugs and feel uncomfortable without them.

Trying to think back to my physics days, he is better off that he was moving when hit at 80 mph, because he would surely be dead if he was parked and slammed into at 80 mph... he was already moving which lowered the force significantly.
