I have a 95-97 bike with standard 160/60 rear tyre. Can I fit a rear wheel from say a 98 or 2000 bike and use a 180/60 rear tyre? If this is possible, would it have a negative effect on handling?

I have a '95 ZX-6R. When I got it, it had a 180/60 Dunlop 207 on the back that wasn't rubbing. The front was the stock BattleAx. I replaced them both with Rennsports, 120/60 on the front and the stock 160/60 on the back. The handling was vastly improved. I'm not sure how much the size of the rear tire had to do with it.

I'm not sure that it's safe to put a 180 on the standard rear wheel, because as far as I know, the later bikes have a wider rim. I would like to have this confirmed. I am very happy with the handling of my bike as it is and do not want to compromise on this. I want to fit a wider rear tyre for cosmetic reasons only.
