I've had a rattle somewhere around the windshield since I got the bike, so tonight I decided to try tightening up all the screws in the area. Most of the windshield screw were really loose. How tight should they actually be? I don't want to overtighten them.

Just make sure they are hand tightened. Don't wrench them in or anything or you could crack the screen. On my bike, they use a rubber stopper type fitting which snugs up as you tighten the screw. But if you tighten too much, the little metal screw thingy in the rubber piece will hit the windscreen and might crack it.

When I was tightening my windscreen down, I tightened it as tight as possible... now it looks tight! lol

If you look on the backside of the windscreen I went 2 threads past the rubber grommit/nut. I haven't had a problem with it. Not too loose, not too tight.
