Am looking for a test victim for owners of 2004 or 2005 bikes that have the analogue LCD tacho version speedo.

If you want to upgrade to a new style speedo from 08/09/10 that has the moving needle tacho and the gear indicator, then I may have a solution for you. (Model years 06/07 had the moving dial tacho but no gear display).

Sorry, but this doesn't convert 06/07 to 08/09/10 because my board only supports the old black connector on the bikes wiring loom.

We have an adapter on the ZX636 section to allow a plug and play upgrade. The same adapter should work for the ZX10R except that the plug pins are re-arranged before going into the clocks connector (of a new style ZX10R speedo). There will be a short cable loom (1 or 2 inches long) between my adapter board and the connector to the speedo - this is where the connections are re-arranged.

The adapter has the black connector that plugs into the bike loom and the rectangular grey connector that plugs into the speedo - so its plug and play.

The adapter re-configures the speed signal for the new gauge and calculates what gear the engine is in. This new gear signal is sent to the speedo and displayed on the LCD.

The adapter can also account for final drive gearing changes in case you want to use different sprockets, or just fine tune the speed display to be as accurate as possible.

All usual gauge functions of hi beam, indicators, neutral, shift, lap timer, oil warning and FI are preserved.

Since I don't have a ZX10R then I'll need some end user support to get everything working.
You will need a Windows PC for downloading new setups (sorry Mac users).
You will need to source a new gauge that you want to upgrade to (ie. 08/09/10 style).
UK owners preferred, but I do ship to USA. You will need to spend a bit of time testing settings, but you get a free adapter out of it.

I think the gauges mount up on the same clocks brace fixings, but if not you should be willing to create some clearance or shim it up with washers.

PM me if interested.

The thread describing how it works is here:

This is a forum project for the benefit of its members. The aim is to use group effort to offer a cost effective solution to a better looking bike.

If anyone can provide a solution to port the app to MAC or Android, then please get in touch.
Will update the thread with on-going progress!

Hey man, i have a gen 1 10r... :)
let me check and see if i still have an 05 plug though as i cut the old one off to use a newer style harness.

Also on the gauges you have to cut off the top 2 mounting points and epoxy them back on the gauge backside.. nothing to hard if you not scared to do it.

A very interesting topic. I am a bit late joining this but hey ho. I have a 2005 10r and the only thing i dislike is the speedo. i really prefer to see a needle than a very obscure grey led so i had been considering changing to a newer speedo if its possible.

Have you got everything to work on your mods now and if so is there a preferred year to upgrade to? Also does anyone know the best place to find one?

Way interested

I am way interested in this mod. Just saw the thread. Have a 2nd gen 10r but don't understand why you say it won't upgrade as the plug in back of the speedo is the same for the first three gens. In fact I have a gen 3 speedo sitting on my bench hoping someone could do just what you have done knowing int had the gear indicator on the head. Plus would love to get ride of my speedo healer. Please consider me a beta tester!

I think the issues i've been having with the ZX10R adapter are due to not providing the return sensor voltage. Will mod this and try it with my tester victim!

Hello Extr400, I know that this is a longshot but i was hoping that you might have an extra adapter harness for sale to use a 2008 gauge cluster on a 2004 zx10r. i already have the gauge cluster. Thank you for your time, Tom..
