I have a 09 ninja 650 that is not starting unless I pour gas in the throttle bodies or if I use starter fluid little bit of history about the bike it sat outside for at least three months in the florida elements with out a cover on it so far I have replaced the starter solonoid fuel pump spark plugs and tip over sensor still no luck cranks over fine but just doesn't catch I have spark fuel pump sounds like its coming on I checked all the fuses just waiting on the relay box to get here Friday and after that I have no idea where to go from there oh and it has no codes when I tried to use the self diagnose mode all ground wires have been cleaned and I cleaned the injectors still nothing please help will post video tomorrow
Long term disuse and uncovered outdoor storage.....a quick death knell for any motorcycle. Verbal abuse is due the offender who allowed this transgression.
You post you replaced the fuel pump but....is it actually *pumping*? Have you verified? Is there a factory fuel filter? Replaced?
You've drained ALL the fouled fuel that was in the tank and throughout the entire fuel system? ...and replaced with 100% fresh fuel?
Those would be the obvious beginning service checks.
Yes even cleaned the fuel rail and the injectors here is a pic of the stator it looked good no burnt coils and here is a video link of the fuel injectors sparying https://youtu.be/2nIosS4G558
stator? What prompts you to look at the stator in midst of an obvious fuel system issue?
I'd urge you to get into your service manual section on fuel pump diagnosis...your answer will be found there. Very possibly a fault within the fuel pump relay...kind of the "brain" for the pump.
PS "looks good" generally doesn't cut the mustard in regards to electrical items integrity...specific tests exist using multimeters and such. Again, the service manual is your friend.
Yes I've downloaded the service manuel for the bike thanks for all the help and quick response I checked the stator because I've heard that when fuel injectors are not spraying enough fuel it could be cause by a weak stator
Ok so I switched out the new fuel filter with the orginal one (used the new filter tho just switched out the pumps) still no luck I hear it turning on and the fi's are spraying what should I do now

There were some aftermarket LEDs from China that I removed off of the bike when I bought it that I figured that could be contributing to an electrical issue but they're off the bike and off the battery so I really don't think it's an electrical issue I'm going to put the airbox on on and give it a try hopefully that's it and then I guess I'll just have to refer to you the service manual
So I got the bike running for a bit but them it died unless I poured fuel down this nipple on the throttle body which had a hose on my bike but not in the pic here from the service manual. My question is what is that nipple for? Is it connected to the fuel tank in any way? Also both hoses on the left side of the fuel tank are gone im assuming those are like overflow h
can you explain these missing hoses you report? Did YOU remove them, or a previous owner?
In any event, its obvious... hands have been in the throttle body/fuel system...you've got a manual, you need to review and assure everything is where it belongs. Stop trying for the miraculous quick fix by added fuel....look for the root problem. Very likely those previous hands disconnected or removed something critical.
Precisely what manual are you using? Surprising that idle speed procedure is not there. And a proper, step by step diagnostic...eliminating point by point and progressively getting more in depth....to reveal again....the root of the problem as opposed to temporary shooting of fuel into open barbs. Like the use of "starting fluid"...that is NOT a fix, nor proper diagnostic procedure.
You might be in over your head here bc this doesnt make a lot of sense
You said it starts and runs on starter fluid which means you have spark. But then you said you confirmed that the fuel is getting sprayed into the cylinders? So you don't have spark now but you did before?
Bc if you have both and its not working its probably going to be your compression
Well I did have spark and I went thru the service manual I have and done as much as I could on the diagnostic I am using a manual I downloaded of manualslib.com
I have power to the pump and to the injectors I have a video here showing them spraying when not in the throttle body https://youtu.be/2nIosS4G558
I uploaded another video of the bike with everything back on the bike today here is the link https://youtu.be/nRi9ZQJ0NY8
When I lose the idle speed screw it sounds like its the closest to starting
I will refer to my manual to see how too do a compression test
I have not found any info about the barb on the throttle body both the gas tank hoses have been replaced one was a ovwr flow tube and the other was a to relase any build up pressure in the tank.
the bike only has about 12k miles on it so maybe the valve clearence needs to be checked?
My friend suggested looking into the fuel pressure regulator but in the manual it said it was not a serviceable part (but it said the same thibg about the fuel pump and fuel pump screen and i replaced both fairly easily) I was wondering if anyone knows how to service the fuel pressure regulator or if that is even possiable or if i just have to buy a whole new pump assembly
It ended up being the fuel pump regulator which is located in the fuel pump assembly unfortunately had to buy the whole assembly thank you for all the help and now if anyone else has that issue at least they have some closure with what the issue potentially may be
