Sweet way to make your own chatterbox for way less

This is what I bought.
a set of midland 2 way radios. Voice activated (VOX), 7 mile range, very small design, water resistant.

Cost, $34.00 from Best Buy

a pair of microphone ear pieces

Cost, $17.00 from the web amazon.com Free S/H

So for $50 I basically got two chatterbox units. That have a far greater range, can be used without the helmet, and do not need to be fitted to the helmet. So no one even knows your communicating with other riders.

They work great, fit great under a helmet, and its so damn cool.
You can communicate from rider to rider or rider to passanger. Hell, you can even get 2 sets and ride with 3 other people and all stay in contact. I did notice that it says the range is 7 miles but it's really like 2 or 3. They have another set that is about $70 and says it has a 10 mile range, so that one is really like a 5 or 6 then. but that is damn good.
I also opted for a battery charger options.

This was $25 and also from Amazon.com .It came with 2 battery packs and a duel slip in charging craddle. I figured the batteries would cost more then $25 in a year.
I couldn't be any happier with these.
The model # of the set I got was G-227 and the G-300 is the one that claims 10 mile range. The model # for the set of handfree kits is AVP-1 and the charging system is AVP-2.

Yes all you have to do is just plug the microphone/ear peice into the unit and select VOX from the main menu. After that its all set to go. And no need to do that everytime.
One thing that I did notice is that sometimes its cuts off the first word when you talk. So before we talk we say "Hey" or blow a little puff of air out of my mouth. Then I just talk.

me and my friend had one of those set ups and it didn't seem to work that good. the noise from the engine kept making the vox activate so we really couldn't use them.

kelvin, there are throat microphones that don't pick up background noise. example: http://www.clearercom.com/
I have a similar one that works only on motorola phones, but haven't tried it on a bike yet. I tried it at a circus once, and the background noise was not very audible. But if it's in the wrong position, it will make you sound incomprehensible.
