Starting/stalling on first fire up. idle surges

I have a 2003 636 and my problem started at the end of the ride season last year to where I would start my bike and it would die, then I would start the bike a second time and it would fire up. After it is started the idle would fluctuate between 800-1000 til warmed up then the idle smooths out to 1400. Has anyone else had this problem??

Sounds like an electrical issue to me, being that your bike if FI I would start by checking the resistance in the stator with a multi meter. Then the rectifier. Having a bad/ dead battery sometimes can cause weird things to happen so I would recommend getting that checked. Your local NAPA will check it for free...
