add another $120 if you need a shift drum. the parts will cost more from a kawi dealer than online.

as for the labor, i dunno what the book on it is, most likely in the neighborhood of 10hrs. maybe a little less.

how long ago?
$65 per hour is LOW around here. average is probably $75-80. some shops are $90-100.

edit: when i had mine done, it was $1600.
and i got the tear down done for $200. so figure atleast $1800 to have it done.
that was in 2005.

depends on the area really. around here $80 is the usual shop rate. i've known some dealerships that charge over $100/hr.

if you can get the thing down here i'll do it for half what the dealer quotes you in labor, plus a 6 pack of stella artois

yeah wonder if my transmission will encounter this at some point?
Might go ahead and send the trans off for service while i have it out and apart this spring.

I ad a serious issue during an endurnace race and my tranny locked in second gear and all I could hear is a crunching sound as I roalled the bike away with the clutch lever pulled in. I looked at how much it would cost to replace the cassette tranny in the engine and it was doing o cast me about 6-700 dollars with parts (casue you should do the whole thing while you have it open, cogs, forks the whole 9 yards)
Looked on the net and found an engine for 700 dollars complete and swapped it out in a day man, don't waste your time, just get a new engine. Most engines will run and if not tehn you still have a full trnny in it. Just get one from a guy that has a good rep. I have done it a few time with different bike and never had an issue at all. And I mean I got a whole engine for that price (airbox, throttle bodies, rad, hoses, you name it)
Then the best part is you keep the other engine, take the head off and gegt it machined and port and polish it and then put that one on later and get more power out of it. teh head alone a guy will give you 300 for!!

assuming all parts are in before starting the work 2 days maximum.

the only thing i don't have is a clutch hub holder.

once the motor is out it only takes a few hours to fix the trans. you just have to remove the clutch, stator, and timing covers, clutch, crank position sensor, lower cam chain guide bolt, remove upper crankcase bolts, then flip the motor over, remove oil pan, remove crankcase bolts, and pull the lower crankcase half off. the transmission shafts will come out at that point, be disassembled and reassembled. the shift forks and drum will remain in the lower crankcase half and be replaced. then the mating surface will be cleaned and everything will be put back together.

i don't have much experience with porting and polishing. that would be a job for whitehendrix.

they're already back cut from the factory. the most you would do is increase the angle, which will help engagement slightly.
