What is your 250R idle RPM

I was just at wondering what RPM the 250R should idle at. I was going out for a ride today, and I noticed the RPM jumped from like 1000 to 2000 for some reason, although I don't remember what RPM it would usually be at. I have a 2 Brothers exhaust with no re-jetting. Just curious.

Have you by chance read the owner's manual? All this stuff, as well as how to set it is in there... believe me... it is... really... honest... not joking... check for yourself, if you don't believe me.

And why are you other guys setting it to 1000rpm???
Are there any pictures of all that stuff? Pictures are easier to read than words.

I have about a hundred miles on mine. Starts up with no choke. Idles around 1300rpm. If run it at all with load, it hovers around 3k rpm then.

I assume that means it's running lean. Should I adjust it to 1300rpm when warmed up? I can always use the choke to start it and warm it...

I have no mods on my bike. It's all stock.

I set the idle on my gf's 250r last night to around 1250-1350 rpm after it had warmed up then I noticed after riding 15min that when I came to a stop light the rpm was hovering at 3000rpm?? no clue why it was doing this. Later on I stopped and it was hovering around 1500-1700rpm? very odd whats going on.

Thank's for the info. I myself was kinda confused but I also have a FI injected bike which are a little less prone to acting up like this but neverless not perfect because my 636 after a few good rides will sometimes start to idle down and then I have to adjust it up.

Might be same issue as below

http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=106196&highlight=tach

My tach is being replaced because it reads different when it is hot. Your idle may read a little different based on the temp. Should be around 1200 or so. To determine if you have a bad tach, ride 60MPH in high gear if you are taching 7K when could and 8K or more hot, the tach is bad.

My completely stock bike has only 55 miles as of when I parked it tonight, and I adjusted my idle. It was sitting at 2000 rpms after a 20 minute ride. That just seemed too high, so I lowered it to about 1200 or 1300. Maybe this will keep the rpm's a little lower in the 45mph range during the break in... since hitting 40mph seems to be at 5500rpms. But if I go any slower on the city roads around here I'll get run over. Not sure if changing the idle will make any difference in where the rpms are at traveling at that speed?

Haven't had to use the choke starting it up as of yet...

Hey Kkim, thanks for the input. Unrelated, but I just got done reading the long post on the possible faulty tach / incorrect tach readings (where you chimed in a few times). It educated me a bit on the expected tach readings at different mph's.

I'll read that "break-in" link you posted. I know there are many different break in methods, and really need to look further into it. I've just been trying to stay under 6K rpms. I've only had the bike for 3 days, and only had time to ride it a couple times. I just want to make sure I don't hurt anything (but like I read here in a different post, someone said "these bikes are built strong, and aren't gonna fall apart if you rev it too high" (or something along those lines). I have no need to go on the freeway yet, so staying under 50mph for a while is reasonable for me.

I plan to change my oil very soon, probably by 75 or 100 miles, if not sooner. I've never changed my car oil myself, and have no clue how to do so on a bike, but i'm gonna do a search and figure it out. I'm not paying a dealer 65 bucks for that!

BTW, I'm brand new to riding, this was only my second day on this bike, and only my 4th day ever riding. I absolutely love riding, and I'M LOVING MY 250R!!! :)
