Howdy guys, i've done significant research (prior to registering here), and have seen many cases similar to mine, BUT NEVER SEE AN ANSWER. It would seem that everyone resolves the issue and never updates the thread.
The bike is a 2005 zzr600 that i just bought with 12,500 miles on the clock. It has a chopped down stock muffler (done by myself), but it is not gutted, it still retains the innards up to the point it was cut. No other mods whatsoever. I just recently put new plugs in it, as well as a new air filter. those were for my piece of mind, it wasn't running badly before.
Basically, the bike runs absolutely perfect at idle, and in any gear under 3/4-ish throttle. I can run it to redline in any gear at about 3/4 throttle and its perfect. as soon as i open it up all the way, it bogs, and above about 10k it will cut-out out a little bit. back off the throttle a little bit, and it starts pulling again.
Now, everyone seems to suggest the main jets need to be upped a size and i could see this being the issue; however, i have played with the choke at
WOT to try and rich the mixture up and it has zero effect, which makes me think its a lack of air. I also tend to lean towards a rich mixture because the old plugs showed signs of a slight richness. Not wet, but a little too black as apposed to the nice golden brown expected.
I dont know the technical term for them, but the vacuum actuated slides at the top of the carbs, could those possibly not be opening far enough at WOT causing a slight rich condition?
Anxiously awaiting some constructive replies. Thanks in advance!
