I am looking at buying an 03 ZX6RR framed track bike that has had the engine swapped with a 636 engine. How difficult is this conversion? Do the motor mounts have to be modified? Any frame differences? Would there be any alignment problems from the 636 drive sprocket to the 6RR driven sprocket? How compatible would the electronics be - would a 6RR wiring harness work with the 636 ECU. Any difference in throttle bodies or air box? I know these are alot of questions but I am new to Kawasaki. The bike appears to be a great bike but I don't want problems down the road. Thanks in advance.

Looking at the fiche for both bikes, there are slight differences in the frame but the motor mounts look identical. The main differences in the frame that I see are the 600 frame has adjustable swingarm pivots where the 636 frame does not. Check out ronayers.com for the fiche on both bikes, that should help you out alot. The bikes are very similar with the 600 being more track oriented. Motor mounts both look identical with the same part #s and I would bet the engines are the same external dimensions so there shouldn't be issues with the drive gears lining up. The wiring harness for both bikes looks the same aswell. ECU connections are probably the same as I think you can use the Kit ECU on either bike.

I've done just the opposite. I have a 6RR engine in a 6R frame. I bought a wrecked ZX6RR and was unable to get it licenced so I swapped everything over to a 636 frame. No alignment issues here after 3,000 track miles.

The only difference is the bore of the 6RR motor to the 636 motor.

Everthing with interchange, they are the same basic bike minus the little tweaks added to the 6RR.

I ended up buying the bike listed in the first post. One thing I left out was that the 636 engine had the RR slipper clutch installed. The guy who did the work is a member of this forum. If you do a search on swapping the 6RR clutch into the 636 engine you can find info. I have done a couple of track days with the bike and I am very pleased. The slipper is definetly an asset at the track.
